Run a command.
Get a video.
A small CLI that watches a real terminal session — including what you type — and renders the interaction as a styled MP4.
$ ./tc "ping google.com"
capturing stdin and stdout...
wrote tc-a7f3k2.mp4
What it does
Runs your command in a PTY, captures terminal input and output with timing, then renders the session with a prompt, path, ANSI colours, Unicode and a clean terminal window.
Two-stage workflow
For short commands, use one command. For long jobs, capture to an event log first and render later — recording and encoding stay independent.
Use it
chmod +x terminalrecorder-macos-arm64
./terminalrecorder-macos-arm64 "ping google.com"
# or capture and render separately
./tc capture -o session.events "tree"
./tc render -o session.mp4 session.events
Before you download
The macOS build is not notarized. If Gatekeeper blocks it, allow it from System Settings → Privacy & Security or run xattr -d com.apple.quarantine ./tc after downloading.
The bundled encoder is included in the macOS Apple Silicon build. Linux builds use an ffmpeg executable available on your PATH.
terminalrecorder does not upload command text, terminal output or recordings. The command itself may access the network, just as it would when run directly.
